HR Updates from SHARE!

January 14, 2022

Dear SHARE Region,

Happy New Year and I hope everyone is off to a successful Spring semester.

As many of you may already know, we have experienced some recent allocation changes for HR support. Many were as a result of backfilling vacancies (Connie’s promotion to HR Partner and Arlene’s promotion to Talent Acquisition) and others due to getting additional support. With this in mind, I want to take the opportunity to introduce you to some of our new additions to our team and the allocations they will support. If they have not already done so, they will be reaching out to you to do introductions in the coming weeks.

Connie Dolino (HR Partner) - Connie has been an HR Generalist for our SHARE Region for the last four years and has over 5 years of HR experience. Prior to joining Berkeley Connie worked for Lawrence Berkeley National Lab. Connie enjoys the outdoors. She hikes, bike rides, and walks regularly and she loves to go on road trips, camping and cooking.

German Moran (HR Generalist) - Germán comes to us as an HR Generalist from the ChaMPS Region. He is a Cal alumni with over 16 years of Human Resources experience. Prior to joining UC Berkeley in 2014, he worked with Discovery Channel and Warner Bros. He's been on various working groups to help continuously improve the service that Berkeley Regional Services provides to campus and is looking forward to continuing to provide service to the community in the SHARE Region.

Jenniffer Cao (HR Generalist) -Jenniffer came to us as an Onboarding Specialist on the SHARE Onboarding Team. She was born in Tijuana, Mexico, can speak three languages (Spanish, English, and Chinese Dialect/Cantonese), enjoys Korean BBQ, tacos, and spending time with her family and friends (especially watching her husband fish). She is excited to work with and learn from everyone within the SHARE Region and looking forward to her career in Human Resources with more opportunities to continue my lifelong journey as someone who always wants to make a difference in the world, small or big!

In addition to this, with the absorption of our newest departments to SHARE, there have been some changes to our SHARE HR structure. I encourage all of you to review our updated org chart and HR contact list for the most current information. Below are some other important reminders that we would like to call to your attention.

EPSL was extended:

EPSL is still available for employees hired on or before September 30th, 2021 who did not exhaust their 2021 EPSL entitlement are eligible for Extended EPSL. EPSL was extended through June 30th, 2022. Please see the policy as well as the forms required for employees to use EPSL.

ASE/GSR & Lecturer Late additions:

As we have now passed the first day of the semester, we want to remind you of the following:

  • Please add your ASE/GSRs to the Smartsheet as soon as possible so that we can try to enter them into UCPath for timely payments.

  • Any Lecturers that are now added to the smartsheet after the first day of the semester will require that you attach a teaching day basis calculation letter to ensure accurate payment. Please reach out to Javier Martinez if you have any questions about Teaching Day basis calculations. If you have questions about Lecturer Smartsheets, please reach out to Sarah Atianzar** Please note Chemistry will onboard to Smartsheets for Fall 2022 hiring.

  • If your ASE/GSRs or Lecturers need to complete onboarding, DO NOT have them begin working until they have completed their onboarding session.

H1-B Requests for Incoming 7/1/22 Faculty Hires:

If you have new Faculty starting on 7/1/22, we encourage you to submit your cases in the month of January. We have been noticing longer lead times for processing H1-B visas and it is recommended that we submit requests as early as possible for the 7/1/22 start dates. Alternatively, later submissions may be subject to visa expedite fees.

Thank you for your continued support,

Ana
